Found a bug? Email hello@pebapp.com with the subject line "Bug Report" and a description of what happened. If you know your device ID, include it -- it helps narrow things down. You can find it in the app under Me > Device Info.
A Peb is a small token that moves between members of a co-op when someone helps someone else out. It has no monetary value. It is not a currency, a point, or a reward. It is a way of saying: I noticed, thank you, keep going.
Pebs lose their brightness over time if they sit still. This is intentional. Pebs are not meant to be saved or accumulated -- they are meant to keep moving. The fading is a gentle nudge, not a penalty. A faded Peb is still a Peb. It just wants to find someone new.
You need an invite from someone already in the co-op. Invite links look like
pebapp://invite/...
and can be shared as a link or a QR code. Open the link on your device and the
app will walk you through joining.
Download the app and tap "Start a co-op" on the welcome screen. You will be the founder and first member. Invite others using the invite button on the co-op page.
Yes. The Co-ops tab shows all the co-ops on your device. Each co-op has its own members, its own Pebs, and its own board.
Tap the invite button (person with a plus icon) at the top of the co-op page. You need to be an admin, or an admin needs to have turned on open inviting for the co-op. The invite link is single-use and expires after 72 hours.
Your co-op data lives on your device. If you lose your phone, you lose access to your local history. You can rejoin your co-ops by asking a member to send you a new invite. Your previous membership history will be included in the invite bundle.
Your old device will stop receiving new messages once your relay registration is no longer valid. A future version of the app will include a device revocation flow to formally remove a lost device from your co-ops.
Only the people in the conversation. Messages are end-to-end encrypted using the MLS protocol. The relay server that delivers them cannot read them. Peb App itself cannot read them. Only the devices of the conversation participants can decrypt them.
Only members of your co-op. Co-ops are private. The relay server does not know what co-ops exist or who is in them. Daniel Sylva, who operates the relay, cannot see your co-op activity, your messages, or your ledger history.
Co-ops are self-governing. There is no moderation layer and no way for anyone outside the co-op to intervene in a dispute. Admins can remove members. Members can leave. The co-op's charter is the right place to set expectations about how conflicts are handled. If a situation is serious, the members of the co-op need to work it out together.
Yes. Peb App is free to use and always will be. There are no ads, no subscriptions, and no premium features. It is a passion project built and maintained by one person. If you would like to help cover server costs, there is a support link on the home page.
Go to Me > Delete account and data. This wipes all local data from your device and removes your device registration from the relay server. See the privacy policy for full details.
First try closing and reopening the app. If the problem persists, email hello@pebapp.com with a description of what is happening, what device and OS version you are using, and your device ID if you have it (Me > Device Info). Screenshots are helpful if the issue is visual.
Email hello@pebapp.com or open an issue on GitHub at github.com/danielbsylva/peb_app. The project is open source -- pull requests are welcome.
Peb App is open source. If you are a developer and want to understand how something works, contribute a fix, or build on the project, the code is at github.com/danielbsylva/peb_app.
